Crossfather Dads Event at Crossfire Skirmish

What a Sunday!

The Crossfather Dads event at Crossfire Skirmish was a bloody good day filled with gel ball, laughs, old friends, new friends, questionable tactical decisions, and, apparently, a pirate who had absolutely no business carrying a sword onto a battlefield.

We kicked things off with a Team Deathmatch, which was a great way to get a feel for the field, work out the team dynamics, and figure out who was going to be useful and who was going to be used as bait.

Naturally, being dressed as Jack Sparrow, I felt it was only appropriate to bring a pirate sword.

And yes…

I actually got a kill with it.

Poor old Silver Fox was the unfortunate recipient of the full pirate experience. Sorry mate, but when you’re standing between a pirate and glory, there’s really only one possible outcome. ☠️🏴‍☠️

Game Two – Protect the Gold

The second game was all about protecting a stash of gold.

We started off reasonably well, holding the enemy off and doing our best to keep the gold safely where it belonged.

Unfortunately, the enemy eventually decided that our defensive line was merely a suggestion.

The floodgates opened.

They came pouring through, we got overrun, and before long the gold had gone missing.

We tried to retake the ground, but the enemy launched a massive offensive, and despite our best efforts, we eventually had to concede defeat.

Then the teams were swapped.

Surely we’d have our chance to get our revenge?

Nope.

Apparently, the enemy had installed an invisible force field around their position because we couldn’t penetrate the bloody place!

Fair play to them though — they held their ground and made us work for every inch.

Game Three – The Bomb

The third game was a bomb mission.

Our job was simple:

Escort the bomb runner, get the bomb planted in the correct location, and then hold off the enemy until the timer ran out.

Simple, right?

Well, this time we came out of the gates faster, harder and far more organised.

We managed to get the bomb to the right location and get it planted, then quickly set up our defensive positions.

From there it was basically:

“Right lads, don’t let them touch it.”

The enemy threw everything they had at us and gave it a bloody good go, but this time we held strong.

They were ultimately unsuccessful.

Bomb planted.

Defence held.

Mission accomplished.

And suddenly we all looked like we knew what we were doing.

The Unexpected Finish

Then came the unexpected part of the day.

After a quiet word from Azza, we somehow ended up finishing the day with a gauntlet.

Now, anyone who knows me knows that telling me something quietly is probably the worst possible way to keep me out of trouble.

Lord knows you can’t tell me anything.

Considering I did my first gauntlet at 45 years old, I’ve come to the conclusion that you’re never too old to make questionable decisions, get absolutely hammered with gel balls, and wonder afterwards why the hell you agreed to it.

Wouldn’t have it any other way.

And Then… A Prize! 🏴‍☠️

To top the whole day off, I unexpectedly won a prize for my Jack Sparrow costume — a Crossfire Jersey.

Absolutely stoked with that!

I certainly wasn’t expecting it, but apparently turning up dressed like a slightly unhinged pirate has its benefits.

All in all, an absolutely fantastic Sunday at Crossfire Skirmish.

Great games, great people, plenty of laughs, a few casualties (sorry Silver Fox ), some questionable tactical choices, and enough pirate nonsense to make Jack Sparrow proud.

Huge thanks to everyone involved in putting the event together and to all the old and new faces who made the day what it was.

Until the next one, keep slinging gel, keep having fun, and remember…

You can never be too old to run a gauntlet.

This was an amazing day Crossfire put on a blast with some very nice pizza from the onsite pizza vendor Dough Diggity https://www.doughdiggity.com.au/
