Queensland’s Biggest Gelball Day in Over Three Years

On Sunday 29 March 2026 we hosted the Beerwah Gelball Charity Event at Beerwah State High School — and it turned into something far bigger than we expected.

We set out hoping for around 30 players. By the end of the day we had roughly 150 people of all ages and genders on the field. It ended up being Queensland’s largest gelball gathering in more than three years.

The day was packed with competitive team-based scenarios, solid sportsmanship, and a really good vibe. What stood out most was how supportive and inclusive the atmosphere was from start to finish. People came to play hard, but also to enjoy the community side of the sport.

The most important part of the day was the money we raised. Together we put $2,052 toward The Flannel Project, a Brisbane charity that supports people left behind after suicide, with a strong focus on postvention care for families and friends of veterans. We’re proud that the event was able to contribute to their work.

A big highlight was awarding Niecy Stewart the Gelball Player of the Year 2026. She earned it through skill and genuine sportsmanship on the day.

We also want to thank the major retail sponsors and everyone who contributed prizes and giveaways (over $2,000 worth). It helped turn the day into more of a festival than just a tournament.

To every player, parent, volunteer and supporter who turned up — thank you. This event only worked because of the Queensland gelball community.

We’re already planning to make the Beerwah charity tournament an annual event, with a bigger version locked in for early 2027.
